What are the problems with the zinc alloy die casting process?

Although the die-casting process has many advantages, the zinc alloy die-casting is still not perfect. Shenzhen Furong Precision Factory briefly talks about these problems today.

First, the type of die-casting alloy is limited: the die-casting mold is limited by the use temperature. Because the melting point of some alloys is too high, the life of the die-casting die is too low, which makes the cost high and difficult to apply in actual production. At present, the alloys used for die casting production are mainly nonferrous metals such as zinc alloys, aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys and copper alloys.

Second, the surface of the die-casting part often has pores: the gas expansion in the pores at high temperature will cause the surface of the die-casting part to bubble, which seriously affects the appearance of the die-casting part and reduces the quality of the overall zinc alloy die-casting part. Therefore, die castings generally cannot be heat treated and welded, nor should they work at high temperatures.

Third, the size of the die-casting parts: the size of the die-casting mold is limited by the die-casting force of the die-casting machine and its die-size. Therefore, the die-casting process is only suitable for the production of small and medium-sized castings, but not for large-scale castings. Similarly, for the complicated concave die castings, the die casting production is also difficult due to the limitations of the die casting mold and the principle.

In the existing casting method, the castings produced by the pressure casting method have some characteristics such as high precision, smooth surface, good mechanical properties, and high productivity. However, whether these characteristics can be exerted depends firstly on whether the design of the die-casting part is reasonable.

The die-casting parts with poor structural process not only bring various difficulties to the die-casting mold manufacturing and die-casting process, but also make it difficult to ensure the quality, so that the technical and economic effects of the die-casting method are difficult to display. In economics and technology, they often fail to achieve the expected results. Instead, they mistakenly believe that the die-casting method does not have the advantages it deserves.

Zinc alloy die-casting molds sometimes require machining operations during the manufacturing process to make the molds more compliant and the choice of mold materials.
